Action Plan

1. Creating a reader-friendly environment by 

1) Creating a Warm, welcoming and appealing physical environment with:

* spacious and light

* well-designed to cater for a variety of reading activities and events

* clearly laid out to encourage independent use

* comfortable and flexible seating

* easy to navigate with color, signage and display to attract and support students

* different genres of level-up books

* some social reading spaces where students can discuss books as a group

2) Starting a book club or reading community by

* Setting goals based on students’ need

* Working collaboratively with my colleagues

3) Building reading routine in my class

4) Giving students positive feedbacks and evaluations

5) Setting a good example for students

2. Integrate technology into my reading class by

1) Sharing digital resource-audio books, book trailers, e-book, videos, music, pictures, even films related to reading.

2) Using digital tool, like Today’s meet, Answer garden, thinglink. Padlet, Voki, Vocaroo, PawToon, Animoto and so on.

3) designing interactive courseware for class activity with digital tool with interactive whiteboard, iPad and computer.

3. Getting students involved by

1) Listening to their expectations and reflections to reading

2) Including their opinion in book choice

3) Building personal connection with students

4) Including students in reading promotion with posters, book talks, sharing reading experiences, even book trailers and so on.

6) Creating reading portfolio

4. Reaching out by

1) Advocating for the teachers reading workshop

2) Getting support from my colleagues, leaders in English department and my principal

3) Getting support from parents and getting parents involved in children’s reading

4) Getting help from experts in reading like Dr. Young and Dr. Harrington
